One
of the
first
things
people
seem to
notice
about
their
computer
is that
it is
slower
than it
used to
be. The
performance
just isn't
what it
once was.
It is
at this
point
that a
lot of
people
just give
up and
go out
and purchase
a new
machine
thinking
that the
computer
they have
is no
longer
any good.
Actually
that is
usually
a mistake.
Before
you toss
you current
computer
in the
trash
there
are some
things
that you
can try
that may
fix your
current
machine.
For some
reason
there
are still
computer
users
out there
that don't
run anti
virus
software
on their
machine.
If you
have used
your computer
to get
online
without
virus
protection
then odds
are your
machine
is infected
with a
virus.
Not
all viruses
are easy
to detect.
Some of
them really
only present
themselves
in the
form of
a very
slow machine.
Does this
sound
familiar?
You really
should
purchase
and run
up to
date desktop
security
software
on your
machine
weekly
if not
daily.
You don't
even have
to go
to the
store
and purchase
this desktop
security
software.
Now you
are able
to download
it off
of the
net.
Another
thing
that most
people
overlook
is that
they need
to defragment
their
hard drive
every
so often.
This sounds
hard,
but it
really
isn't.
If you
have a
Window's
based
machine
all you
have to
do is
run a
search
on your
hard drive
for your
defragment
utility
program.
Just
be aware
that it
will take
a while
to defragment
a hard
drive
since
most newer
machines
have really
big hard
drives.
Another
thing
you can
try is
to remove
any unwanted
or unnecessary
files
from your
computer's
hard drive.
We all
have digital
cameras
and digital
video
cameras.
Even if
you have
a really
large
hard drive
eventually
you can
begin
to fill
it with
all of
these
large
image
files.
It
wouldn't
be a bad
idea to
look through
all of
your files
and see
if there
are any
that you
can stand
to part
with.
One
more thing
that you
may consider
doing
is to
clean
the registry
on your
machine.
This is
the location
on your
computer
where
all of
the information
about
all of
your programs
is stored.
There
may very
well be
problems
in your
registry.
This could
cause
your computer
to run
slower
than it
should.
There
are actually
registry
error
fix programs
that you
can purchase
to take
care of
this problem
for you.
Most of
these
programs
are very
affordable
and can
be purchased
online.
Another
thing
to consider
when your
machine
is running
slow is
that it
may contain
Spyware.
I am sure
you have
heard
of Spyware,
but in
case you
aren't
sure what
it is
I will
tell you.
Spyware
is similar
to a computer
virus
but it
monitors
your online
actions.
It can
even send
data back
to the
host about
your computer
usage
and the
sites
that you
have visited.
Good desktop
security
software
will protect
you from
this.
Before
you decide
to toss
your computer
and purchase
a new
one you
really
should
try all
of the
above.
Desktop
security
software
has certainly
fixed
a lot
of computer
problems
and saved
people
a lot
of money.
